CURRENT RESEARCH

Refinement technologies of biodiesel
Biodiesel oil bears with superior advantages of low particulate matter, smoke, CO, CO2, PAH, nPAH emissions, etc. and is considered as environment-friendly alternative fuel for diesel engines or other combustion equipments. We have succeeded in refining soybean oil to biodiesel oil and completed the diesel engine and furnace testing for our refined biodiesel oil. The study on refining process from used cooking oil to biodiesel is working on as well. The current emphasis of this study is to improve biodiesel properties by using advanced refining technologies. We have received one ROC¡¦s invention patent for one of our refining technique.

Refinement technologies of diesel form used lubricating
We have successfully refine diesel fuel from used lubricating oil and fishing- boat fuel by using a serial of physical-chemical processes.

Two-and three-phases diesel emulsions
Studies on emulsification, combustion and emission characteristics of oil-in-water-in-¡]O/W/O¡^three-phase emulsions, water-in-oil two phase emulsions. Three-phase emulsions currently are limited to the applications on cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutics fields. Professor C. Y. Lin is likely to be the first researcher to investigate the potentials for using O/W/O three phase emulsions as alternative fuel for diesel engines, furnaces, and other combustion equipments.

Micro-emulsions studies

For the purpose of enhance emulsion characteristics; we have been working on the micro-emulsion studies. We hope emulsion can be more practically used as fuel in power-plant systems, ships and vehicles.

Improvement of diesel engine performance and pollution reduction technologies
A diesel engine of four-stroke, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated air accompanied with an eddy-current dynamometer, and automatic date acquiring system is employed for experiments. A particulate matter sampling meter, a gas analyzer, a smoke meter, and a VOCs analyzer are also used for emission measurements.

Evaluations for air-pollution prevention technology and strategies for mobile pollution sources.
¡@

Environment Prevention Administration of our government financially supports these studies. Both the calculation of amount of pollution reduction and analysis of cost effectiveness for technologies or strategies taken to reduce air pollution from vehicles or marine vessels are considered.

¡@

Inter-field studies on both combustion and high-temperature corrosion characteristics of industrial furnaces.
The effects of fuel contents and environmental variation on combustion, emission and corrosion characteristics of metallic material attacked by high-temperature burning gas in an industrial furnace are experimentally investigated.
